Homemade apple cider with a Tosh twist
There is nothing better than the smell of fall or winter!
Something about the “warmth” in the air. The pumpkin spice everything to the mixture of spices like cinnamon and anise that lightly coats the air. Two of our favorite seasons and the perfect excuse to make a delicious cup of homemade apple cider.
This may seem complicated, but it’s actually straightforward. Plus, you can wow your guests when they come over with your excellent kitchen skills.
Plus, this apple cider recipe will never disappoint and will always taste better than anything you would pick up at the grocery store. For this particular recipe, you can use a slow cooker or a stovetop.
Ingredients
One bag of apples ruffly around 10 to 12
3 Cinnamon sticks
Tosh Red Berries Infusion
Prep Time: 5 min
Cooking time: 4 hours
Start by prepping your ingredients:
Cut your apples into slices
Set aside three cinnamon sticks
Set aside three Tosh Red Berries Infusion bags
Pro Tip: You can also add spices like whole cloves, whole allspice, nutmeg, fresh ginger. Some recipes also call for adding oranges. Try the different variations and see which you like the best.
Grab your apples and cinnamon sticks, and drop them into a large pot and fill with water. Leave about 1 inch from the top.
Set to high heat till it comes to a boil and reduce to medium-low for 2 hours. If you are using a Slow cooker, set to high and also leave for two hours. Check to see that your apples are completely soft. If not, leave for 10 minutes longer.
Next, you want to reduce the heat to low. Throw in 3-4 Tosh Red Berries Infusion bags and remove in 5 min. Once you have withdrawn your bags, let simmer for another two hours.
Here is the fun part, remove your cinnamon sticks, and mash your apples. Use the side of the pot to help you.
Strain using a fine-mesh strainer or cheesecloth, whatever you have handy. We like our cider with a little pulp, but that is entirely up to you.
Optional: Taste first and decide if you would like to sweeten.
